A sophisticated building ensemble

"Challenging" is meant quite literally. The goal was always for Fuchsegg to harmoniously blend into its surroundings while meeting a variety of needs. "As if it has always been there..." That was our ambition. We chose the Bregenzer architects Ludescher + Lutz, specialists in buildings in open landscapes. After a sensitive study of the environment and building volume, they designed a collection of buildings that draws inspiration from the traditional architecture of the region. The character of the alpine huts is further defined by the wooden façade system. Just as it has always been, the buildings will stand up to nature and age gracefully into their surroundings over time. We are thrilled with the result— and we hope you will be too!

Vorarlberger, Bregenzerwälder craftmanship

Craftsmanship in Vorarlberg, particularly in the Bregenzerwald region, evolves with the times while never forgetting its roots. High quality, locally sourced natural materials, and meticulous attention to detail unite with creative design. Long-standing traditions bring a wealth of experience. Every crafted element within the Fuchsegg Eco Lodge contributes to a sense of well-being. Each piece of furniture has its own character and story. The carpenters, joiners, upholsterers, lighting designers, and creators of the hand-crafted tiles for the fireplace—all stand behind their craftsmanship. Here, quality is not just a word; it’s a lived practice among local artisans.

Interior design inspired by blueberries and porcini

The changing hues of blueberries, abundant in the surrounding forests and meadows, weave through our interior concept like a red (or blue) thread. The blueberry blue creates a striking contrast against the light-colored silver fir wood. The untreated spruce of the façade and the elegant silver fir wood inside Fuchsegg are defining features of our living units. These woods are showcased in their rough-sawn and brushed finishes on walls and ceilings. At Fuchsegg, we aim to touch both the old and the young, focusing on timeless, high-quality design. The warm tones of various woods create a cozy atmosphere. All our lodges—designed for recharging and relaxation—face either east or west. Thanks to the sophisticated, movable wooden slats, you can enjoy protected, captivating views and playful light patterns.

Our commitment to using healthy living materials is also evident in the flooring of our living spaces. Ash and elm pair beautifully with our wooden furniture. Luxurious wool felt and the natural stone Grünig Quarzit® meet our standards for hygiene and aesthetics. The healthy clay casein plaster on the floor caresses each of our steps.

Soaped maple tabletops

Our guests are often captivated by the velvety texture of the maple tables, crafted by Tischlerei Mohr, with over fifty pieces made specifically for Fuchsegg in Andelsbuch. The corners and edges are gently rounded and sanded to perfection, providing a delightful tactile experience. Anton Mohr, an experienced specialist in surface treatment, reveals the secret behind this exquisite finish: “Soaping the tabletops is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. In six steps, the wood is soaked, dried, and sanded. The grit gets finer with each pass, culminating in a final grit of 600. The wood must dry thoroughly between each stage. During the last passes, plant oil soap is added to the water.” The Fuchsegg team maintains the tables daily using plenty of water and a bit of plant soap, ensuring that over time, the tables become increasingly resilient and beautiful.

Our Favorite Wall – Wood-Burned Jura Limestone from Bregenzerwald

Standing majestically in the Bregenzerwald, the Kanisfluh mountain inspires our favorite wall, crafted from its unique limestone. Alchemist Gerold Ulrich skillfully employs ancient craftsmanship techniques to fire the stone, using pure nature without any additives, just as it was done in the past. David Lededsky, trained by Master Gerold Ulrich, meticulously creates the smooth, black-mystical finish of our beloved wall through several steps.

For those familiar with the Kanisfluh, our passion for this material is easily understood. It's a rewarding hiking destination for your next summer getaway in the Fuchsegg style. Gerold Ulrich masters the art of lime burning, a craft dating back to ancient times, with little alteration to the original methods. The limestone is fired in a wood-fired oven at 900 degrees Celsius, and it takes nearly one hundred hours before it can be processed further. The stone is then mixed with water, transforming into a fine powder that creates an exceptional indoor climate. When treated with soap, it even becomes water-resistant. With a high pH value, this lime finish is germ-free and resistant to mold.

Touching the wall is a fascinating experience, and in our lodge lounge, it beautifully complements the rough-sawn silver fir walls. By the way, if you indulge in a massage, you’ll have the chance to discover our white lime finish wall in the SPA room, which has been treated with soap from Marseille for an exquisite touch.
